How to Create a Walking Map From Home & Back

Going for a walk outside allows you to get your daily exercise along with a bit of fresh air. While you can always base your exercise on time, it can help to create a walking map from home and back so that you can see exactly how far you are walking. This helps you to keep track of distance as well as determine your walking rate and thus how many calories you're burning. Fortunately, online walk map creators make this incredibly easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for a mapping website. While this isn't a requirement, it's easier to keep track of your progress if you create a login to remember your routes. Most sites have a free membership that allows you to save your data so that you don't have to re-enter every time you take a walk.

    • 2

Locate your home on the map. Depending on the site, you may be able to enter your address to find your house. You can also find it simply by looking at a zoomed-in version of the street map.

    • 3

Mark your home as the start point. You'll get a special icon to show this.

    • 4

Map your walking route. From your starting point, you'll be able to click on the map to show your full route. Simply follow along the line, clicking and making adjustments so that the line follows the roads that you take.

    • 5

End back at your home. The program will then automatically calculate the distance that you've traveled.
