How to Walk 10,000 Steps Each Day

When it comes to health, one of the easiest and best exercises to complete is walking. Take 10,000 steps a day and you'll be close to satisfying the U.S. Surgeon General's recommendation for 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week. Instead of heading to the nearest track, however, make an effort to walk more in your daily routine and you'll reach 10,000 steps a day in no time.

Wear a pedometer to make it easy to count your steps during the day.

At home, make an effort to spend less time sitting and more time moving. Pace while you are chatting on the phone, during television commercials or any time that you have a few minutes. Keep your goal of walking 10000 steps per day in your mind all day long.

When running errands, park further away from your destination than necessary. At the grocery store, do a few laps around the perimeter of the store before you start shopping. Take a brisk walk around the mall before browsing the shops. Walk your kids to school instead of driving them.

Fit in walking at the office. Walk to a co-worker's desk to speak to her instead of sending an email. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, and try to fit in five to 10 minutes for an energizing walk during your lunch hour.
