How to Walk in Sketchers Shape-ups

Skechers is a shoe manufacturer that produces a toning shoe called Shape-ups. Shape-ups, like other toning shoes, have an enlarged sole that simulates walking on an uneven surface such as soft sand. Shape-ups suggest that the imbalance produced by the sole causes muscles to activate, tone and burn more calories. In order to get the full benefit of the shoe, you need to walk with deliberation and proper technique.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on your Skechers Shape-ups and lace them so that your feet are held snug and firm, but not too tight.

    • 2

Stand erect with your spine elongated and your shoulders pulled back. Your chest should be slightly forward, and your arms should hang comfortably at your side.

    • 3

Shift your weight to one foot and step forward with the opposite foot. Step forward a moderate step length. Do not make great, long strides. Instead, keep your stride lengths about as long as your hips are wide.

    • 4

Strike the ground gently, with your heel first. Never plant your foot flatly or lead with your toes.

    • 5

Bend from the hip and roll forward from your heel onto your toes. Shape-ups have a smooth curve that will guide this movement.

    • 6

Keep your buttocks tight as you step. This will help to maximize the toning effect of the Shape-ups.

    • 7

Contract your abdominal muscles gently as you step. This will help you maintain your posture and prevent your back from curving or bending forward.

    • 8

Push off the ground from your flexed toes and step forward with the other foot in the same manner as described in Steps 3 to 7.
