How to Find Out the Distance Walked
Instructions
-
-
1
Purchase a digital pedometer with the capability to measure distance walked.
-
2
Calculate the length of your steps. Set your pedometer to measure the number of steps walked. Wear the device and walk a known distance, such as one time around a quarter-mile track. Divide the known distance you have walked in feet by the number of steps you have taken. A quarter mile is 1,320 feet. So, for example, if the pedometer counts 711 steps, divide, 1,320 feet by 711 steps, so each step is 1.85 feet long.
-
3
Enter the step length into the pedometer. Set you pedometer to measure walking distance.
-
4
Wear the pedometer on your waistband and begin walking. The device will now calculate the total distance walked.
