1
Avoid bad calories. Eliminate foods that are high in fat, highly processed and have little nutritional value. This includes cakes, cookies, candy, fast food and pastries. Also cut out the high-calorie beverages such as soda, lattes and especially alcohol.
-
2
Eat frequent meals. Start eating as soon as you get up and eat a small balanced meal every two to three hours for the rest of the day. This will create a thermogenic effect in the body causing metabolism to rise. The end result is more overall calories burned.
-
3
Do weight training. Muscle is more metabolically active than fat. This means that it burns more calories in the body. Do exercises that work all the major muscle groups. To get the most out of your workouts, do circuit routines. This will also contribute a higher caloric expenditure.
-
4
Do cardiovascular exercises. This can be running, cycling, stair stepping, swimming or any other form of aerobic training. Start out slow with shorter time periods and work your way up as you go. For example, start off doing three days of jogging for 30 minutes and eventually increase your time every week by five minutes until you get up to 60 minutes.
-
5
Drink a lot of water. Drinking water helps increase metabolism and it also helps to flush the body of by-products and impurities. It also helps the body stay hydrated during daily function and especially during exercise.
