Instructions for SRF Second Kriya

The second Kriya initiation in the tradition of Paramahansa Yogananda should only be practiced after a solid base in yoga, meditation and moral constitution has been established, according to the Self Realization Fellowship program. The second Kriya is taken up only after the first Kriya has been practiced. At the very least, a natural easy awareness of the chakras is called for prior to taking up this practice. Clear the knots that tangle up in the nadis, and bring the mind that is always chasing after the next thing (and believing it) under control --- or more appropriately said, release the self into its dynamic natural peace. In this system, the chakras are visualized as just in front of the spine. Moving up from the foundation, these chakras are: The base chakra at the groin, the "dan-tien" located three finger widths below the navel, the solar plexus just below the ribcage, the heart chakra, the throat chakra, a chakra at the base of the skull, the third eye and the crown chakra at the top of the head.

Instructions

Move the energy up through the chakras.

Sit with your spine erect and relaxed, and gently close your eyes. For this technique, in the beginning, sit with your elbows resting on a high table. Using your thumbs, gently push in the tragus closing ear openings. At the same time, lightly massage the outer corners of your eyes in a circular motion with the fingertips. While doing this, bring the awareness into the base chakra, lift up the energy while contracting anus muscles upward and listen for the sound of a bumblebee. Once this technique is perfected, visual experiences reflected from each chakra to the base of the skull will be seen at the third eye. Then, with the spine remaining erect, relax.

Create a few moments to center.

Move the awareness up your spine to the "dan-tien." Close your ears as before and massage the corners of your eyes with your fingertips. Bring the awareness into the second chakra, gently tightening the muscles to lift the energy upward. Listen for the sound of a flute. Watch for lights and colors in the third eye. Then relax, remaining in the meditation posture.

Honor the natural glory of your being.

Moving up, bring the awareness to the solar plexus. Close your ears and massage the outer corners of your eyes. Tighten the solar plexus muscles, bringing the energy upward, and listen for the sound of a harp. Then relax, remaining in meditation with your eyes closed.

Bring the awareness to the heart chakra. Close your ears and massage the corners of your eyes. Tighten muscles, bringing the energy upward. Listen for the deep sound of a bell. Then relax, remaining in meditation.

Bring the awareness to the throat chakra. Close ears and with your fingertips, massage circles at the outer corners of your eyes. Tighten the muscles at the throat chakra and bring the energy upward. Listen for the sound of the sea roaring in the throat chakra. Then relax, remaining in meditation.

Bring the awareness up to the base of your skull at the top of your spine. Moving the energy upward, tighten muscles, close your ears and massage the corners of your eyes as before. Listen for the symphony of sounds, already described, coming from each chakra. Completely release yourself into the meditation, and relax.
