1
Give your knees some rest to speed up your recovery time. Take pressure off of your knees by relaxing in bed or on a sofa. Using a pillow for support can increase your comfort.
-
2
Apply ice to stop your knees from swelling. Areas around your knees may be inflamed due to excess stress, causing severe discomfort and pain. An ice pack or bag of ice should be applied for approximately 30 minutes. Repeat the application twice a day, or as needed until you see a noticeable reduction in swelling.

3
Use an ointment such as BENGAY or Icy Hot to relieve pain and to help heal your knees. Massage the ointment around your knees each day, until your knees stop aching.
-
4
Wrap your knees using an Ace bandage or flexible cloth. An elastic type of material will provide support while still allowing you to move your knees. This, too, will help heal your knees, as bandages are used to assist your body until recovery is realized.
-
5
Soak your knees in the bathtub. Use warm water to further reduce swelling and pain.
-
6
Visit a physical therapist to use advanced forms of healing exercises and aquatic types of treatment. A physical therapy center will have various types of equipment that can help you increase mobility in your knees without causing more pain.
