How to Make a Grappling Bag

Martial arts training requires a variety of different equipment. Some athletes use weight devices, cardio equipment and other products to assist in their training. When training partners are unavailable, martial artists will use grappling dummies to practice their take downs and submission holds. These products are available through sporting goods providers, but they may carry an expensive price tag. A homemade grappling dummy will give you all the benefits of the manufactured product at a reduced cost.

Instructions

    • 1

Tape the sweat shirt and sweat pants together. Tuck the shirt into the waist band of the bands before using the duct tape to attach the two products together.

    • 2

Duct tape the openings of the sweat pants and sweat shirt to close them. Make sure that all four ends are sealed shut and that nothing will fall through when the stuffing is added.

    • 3

Add stuffing into the top of the sweat shirt and push it all the way into the bottom of the sweat pants. Fill the arms with stuffing and finally add the stuffing in the upper body of the grappling dummy.

    • 4

Insert the mannequin head into the top of the sweat shirt and tape it into place. Make sure that the head does not fall out of place when the dummy is thrown around or grabbed.

    • 5

Test the grappling dummy and ensure that it does not fall apart when thrown around. If you notice any weak or soft portions, remove the head of the dummy and add additional stuffing until it becomes firm to your liking.
