How to Do a Kick Backflip

A corkscrew kick is a style of kicking backflip used in many martial arts styles. When properly completed, the individual performing the trick kicks out at a target in front of them, then follows through with a backflip which features a twisting motion as a result of the momentum of the kick. Although the corkscrew kick can be intimidating for a beginning martial artist, with practice, you can build through your training until you are ready to land the kick.

Instructions

    • 1

Run forward with your arms extended in front of you.

    • 2

Pull your arms down as you push off your jumping leg.

    • 3

Swing your kicking leg forward then up and slightly to the side, as if performing a roundhouse kick.

    • 4

Turn your head over the shoulder that corresponds with your jumping leg, so that you can see the ground as you rotate.

    • 5

Tuck both legs in to initiate the backflip rotation.

    • 6

Pull your arms in tight to your body to increase the rotation.

    • 7

Extend your arms and legs out to stop rotating and land the flip.
