How to Tie Your Dobok

The dobok is the apparel worn in Korean martial arts. It consists of a pair of white pants, a white wrap-around top and a belt. The belt comes in many colors, ranging from white to black, depending on the owner's skills in the martial arts. Wrapping the dobok top and tying the belt may seem confusing at first, but with practice you will be able to wear the garment correctly with little effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the dobok top so that the opening is in front.

    • 2

Grasp the string that is on the right side with your right hand. It is the one on the outside of the top.

    • 3

Pull the string toward the left side and tie it to the left string that is on the inside of the top. Tie the strings together in a snug bow so it is against your body but not too tight.

    • 4

Grasp the string that is on the left outside of the top and pull it toward the right side of your body. Tie it in a simple bow to the right outside string.

    • 5

Hold your belt with both hands so that it is even with your navel and the ends extend the same length on each side.

    • 6

Wrap the belt around your body one time and bring the ends around to the front of your waist.

    • 7

Pull the left side of the belt over the right side of the belt.

    • 8

Pull the original left side of the belt behind the right section and loop it over the other side.

    • 9

Cross the belt that is now on the top side over the one of the bottom side. Pull it snug to make a tidy knot.
