How to Get Rid of Lumps in an MMA Bag
Heavy bags are not only used in boxing, they are also a vital training component of mixed martial arts, or MMA. Heavy bags are used to practice punches, kicks, elbows and knees. They can also be picked up during a wrestling drill. Heavy bags are usually filled with heavy foam, sand or water to make them firm to hit, but also pliable enough to not fracture due to impact. Ongoing abuse may cause an MMA bag to develop a lump as a piece of foam dislodges under the bag's surface or sand starts building up. Removing lumps from an MMA bag requires some technique.
Things You'll Need
- Rolling pin
Instructions
-
-
1
Unhook the bag if it is attached to a chain or a stand and lay it down flat on the floor.
-
2
Roll the bag back and forth on the floor to help redistribute the foam or sand. The lumps normally form due to a combination of force and gravity. Redistributing the contents in the bag in this fashion should loosen any existing lumps if not outright eliminate them. Turn the bag upside-down temporarily to disrupt any stubborn lumps.
-
3
Push a rolling pin back and forth over the lump, with as much force as you can, until the lump is gone. Stand the bag back up and resume using the bag normally to see if the lump returns.
-
4
Repeat the process until all lumps are removed.
