How to Write a Speech About Tae Kwon Do

At some point in your Tae Kwon Do career, you may be called upon to give a speech about the Korean martial art. This is a great way to act as an ambassador for the art. Giving a speech about Tae Kwon Do is nothing to be nervous about. It is a subject you already know something about, and hopefully, you are passionate about it. With a little preparation and practice, you'll give a speech that will impress your teachers and peers.

      Select a topic. Perhaps you wish to give a speech on the history of Tae Kwon Do, or maybe talk about where Tae Kwon Do is going in the next century. Or you may want to explain the importance of a particular Tae Kwon Do technique. Whatever you decide to give your speech about, make sure you have a clear idea about it before you sit down to write.

      Research your topic. No matter how familiar you may be with the topic you are speaking about, research it further. You may only read things that you already know. However, the process of reading will give you a fuller appreciation of the topic by reminding you of its breadth. Even if you are an expert on your subject, without research, you may skip over important material. Research helps avoid this.

      Know your audience. A speech on the history of Tae Kwon Do will be vastly different if written for young students than it will be if written for a meeting of international masters of the art. Before you even make an outline, have your audience in mind. Tailor your speech to their needs and interests.

      Write your conclusion. Your conclusion should be the climax of the speech. In addition to drawing conclusions about the subject at hand, you should also give the listeners a desire to do something, at least to learn more about the subject. Then remember to thank them for listening to you.
