How to Scuff & Shape a Pool Stick
Caring for your pool stick involves properly scuffing and shaping the tip to keep it in working condition. A properly shaped pool cue will be more precise when hitting the ball, and it will also last longer. Although scuffing and shaping a pool cue can be a time-consuming chore, it is one that will ensure your equipment will last for years.

1
Check the shape of the pool cue before shaping it. The cue should be rounded to about the contour of a dime.
-
2
Use a utility knife to shape the tip of the pool cue. Shave off any hanging or torn pieces of the tip.
-
3
Shape the end of the cue using a knife until it has the rounded contour you want.
-
4
Use a tip scuffer to roughen the edges and top of the pool cue's tip. This helps the chalk stick to the pool cue, which increases its precision.
-
5
Wipe the scuffer two to three times over the tip, or until it has a slightly ruffled appearance. Apply chalk to the pool cue before using it.
