How to Change a Pool Cue

Over time, with repeated use, your pool cue's tip wears down. It is quite easy to change your pool cue's tip with just a few simple tools. If you play pool frequently, learning to change your pool cue's tip is a valuable skill that you will use over and over again. When buying new pool cue tips, buy tips that are 1 mm larger than your ferrule. This will compensate for the sanding needed to fit it properly.

Things You'll Need

  • Utility knife
  • Cyanoacrylic gel glue
  • 60- to 80-grit sandpaper
  • 400- to 600-grit sandpaper
  • Paper towel

Instructions

      Remove the old pool cue tip with a utility knife or razor blade.

      Sand the tip of the ferrule with the 60- to 80-grit sandpaper until it is flat.

      Sand the bottom of the new pool cue tip with the 60- to 80-grit sandpaper until it is rough.

      Coat the tip of the ferrule and the sanded bottom of the new pool cue tip with the adhesive.

      Place the pool cue tip on top of the ferrule so that it is centered. Hold it in place for 60 seconds.

      Hold the pool cue upside down. Use your utility knife to trim the overlapping lip of the pool cue.

      Allow the glue to cure overnight.

      Moisten the tip of the ferrule with a moist paper towel.

      Sand the tip to the appropriate size with the 400- to 600-grit sandpaper.
