How to Mount a Trolley Motor on a Deckless Boat
Should you decide to install a trolley motor on your deckless boat -- that is, one that lacks a small deck to which you may install the motor's base -- use a transom-mount motor. These are attached to the "wall" at the back of the boat, also called the stern. They use a clamp to secure the motor to the vertical surface of the transom. Since the motor is located at the rear of the boat, they require hands-on control, much like an outboard motor.
Instructions

1
Turn the transom clamp screws counterclockwise, as you face them, to retract them. The transom clamp is similar in appearance to a carpenter's C-clamp.
-
2
Lower the transom mount onto the stern of the boat. Ensure the trans clamp screws are retracted far enough to fit over the edge the boat's stern.
-
3
Tighten the transom clamp screws by hand until they are secure.
-
4
Connect the trolley motor's red lead to the positive post of the battery. Connect the trolley motor's black lead to the battery's negative post.
