Things You'll Need
- Socket set
- Phillips screwdriver
- Carburetor rebuild kit
- Carburetor cleaner
- Old toothbrush
Instructions
-
-
1
Open the engine compartment and remove the carburetor retaining bolts.
-
2
Use a screwdriver to remove all the fuel lines from the carburetor. Remove the throttle linkage from the Evinrude's control arm too.
-
3
Remove the carburetor from the engine and then use a screwdriver to remove the high and low speed needles. Set them aside.
-
4
Unscrew the screw holding the float bowl in place at the bottom of the carburetor. Use the Phillips screwdriver to do this.
-
5
Remove all the carburetor jets with the screwdriver.
-
6
Clean all the loose parts with spray carburetor cleaner. Replace the float bowl gasket with a new one from the carburetor rebuild kit.
-
7
Spray the carburetor cleaner into all of the carburetor jets and use an old toothbrush to help scrub out residue, if need be.
-
8
Insert all the jets back into the carburetor with the screwdriver after all the pieces are dry. It should take one to two hours for all the cleaned pieces to completely dry.
-
9
Attach the float bowl back onto the carburetor. Insert the high speed and low speed needles into the carburetor and tighten them into place too.
-
10
Set the carburetor back into the engine and replace its mounting bolts. Attach the fuel lines and the throttle linkage and then put the engine cover back in place. Start the outboard to see how it runs after cleaning.
