How to Hook Up a Toggle Switch for a Minn Kota Trolling Motor on a Pirogue

Trolling motors are secondary boat motors primarily used by fishermen because they are lightweight and do not make a lot of noise. Trolling motors connect directly to the battery. The installation of a toggle switch can make starting the troling motor easier. Toggle switches are available at most marine or auto parts stores. The installation of a toggle switch does not require much mechanical knowledge and will take approximately 30 miniutes.

  • Wrench

      Connect the positive wire running from the trolling motor to the toggle switch wire by twsiting the wires together.

      Cut 1 foot of wire and strip both ends. Connect one end of the wire to the toggle switch and positive trolling motor wire. Twist it together by hand.

      Attach an O-ring to the other end of the stripped wire. Connect that end to the bettery's positive battery terminal using a wrench.

      Connect the negative wire running from the trolling motor using a wrench.
