How to Replace a Fuel Sending Unit on an Ebbtide Boat

Ebbtide is a Tennessee-based boat manufacturing company that specializes in crafting durable mid to larger size boats. Ebbtides feature Mercury or Volvo Penta motors. The fuel sending unit is a device that relays information from the boat fuel tank to the gas gauge. While some fuel-sending units float inside the gas tanks and require the whole tank to be drained to get to it, Ebbtide boats have an access panel that allows easy access to the fuel-sending unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the Ebbtide's negative battery cable with an adjustable wrench.

    • 2

Open the panel near the fuel tank to access the fuel-sending unit.

    • 3

Use a screwdriver to remove the wire running from the gas gauge to the old fuel-sending unit.

    • 4

Use the socket set to remove the bolts holding the fuel sending unit in place on the outside of the fuel tanks and remove the old unit.

    • 5

Check the condition of the sending unit gasket. If it is in bad shape, use a putty knife to scrape it off and set a new gasket into place.
