Instructions to Install a Mercruiser Water Pressure Sensor
Mercruiser is a company that specializes in manufacturing outboard boat motors. Outboard motors, as opposed to inboard motors which are built into the body of the boat, are motors that are externally mounted on the transom of the boat. A water pressure sensor, or gauge, is an external device that can be connected to the Mercruiser motor to oversee the function of the water pump's impeller. If the water pump malfunctions and the engine begins to overheat, it will trigger the water temperature sensor.

1
Select a spot close to the engine to mount the sensor's gauge.
-
2
Clean the area off with a clean rag. Place the gauge on the spot and use a pencil to mark where the mounting holes are located.
-
3
Use a drill to make holes where the the marks were made.
-
4
Place the gauge over the drilled out holes and use the mounting hardware from the kit to mount the gauge.
-
5
Place a small amount of silicon sealant on one end of the sensor's tubing and then slip it over the port at the base of the gauge.
-
6
Remove the outboard's motor cover and then locate the water pressure tap. Remove the tap plug with an Allen wrench, and fasten the other end of the tubing running from the gauge to the tap plug.
