How to Lock a Boat Trailer Wheel Clamp

Wheel clamps are used to prevent theft of many different types of vehicles and wheels. Because trailers used for boats, mobile homes or other recreational vehicles are frequently stored for a long period of time outdoors, wheel clamps are used to protect them from theft. Though wheel clamps come in a variety of different styles and options, the general process for installing them is similar. Install at least one clamp on the driver's side front wheel.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the key into the key slot of the trailer wheel clamp. Turn it so that it is unlocked.

    • 2

Place the front attachment arm of the wheel clamp through one of the upper side lug nuts on the wheel. It can go on the lug nut to the left or right of the top center lug nut, so that the security arm hangs over the tire, preventing wheel movement.

    • 3

Crank the two ends of the clamps arm together until they are joined. Be sure the key is in the "unlocked" position to do this.

    • 4

Turn the key to the locked position and remove it.

    • 5

Repeat the installation process with the other wheels for added security.
