  1. About Yanmar Marine International

    • Founded in 1912 as Yamaoka Hatsudoki Kosakusho, Yanmar -- the name was adopted in 1921 -- began as a manufacturer of small diesel engines. The company expanded around the world, opening regional offices worldwide, in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Located in Japan, Yanmar's operations include Yanmar Agricultural Machinery, Yanmar Energy Systems, Yanmar Construction Equipment, Yanmar Logistics Service, Yanmar Captial and Yanmar Marine.

    Powerboat Engines

    • Yanmar builds two types of four-stroke water-cooled diesel engines for powerboats: the 8LV-320 and 8lV-370. Both are based on the Yanmar's eight-cylinder 8LV diesel engine. With a displacement of 4.46 liters, the 8LV-320 produces 325 horsepower at 3,800 rpm. The 8LV-370 produces 375 horsepower. Both the 8LV-320 and 8lV-370 weigh in at 992 pounds, and are nestled on flexible rubber mounts. The block is 44 inches in length, 34 inches in width and 30.5 inches in height.

    Auxiliary Sailboat Engines

    • Yanmar makes four different variety of engines suitable for auxiliary sailing vessels. The smallest, a single one-cylinder model, produces 11 horsepower. The largest, a four-cylinder inline engine, produces 127 horsepower. Between those two are a 15-horsepower horsepower, a two-cylinder engine and three types of three-cylinder engines that provide 22, 30 and 40 horsepower. The smallest of the four-cylinder sailboat engines produces 40 horsepower. The remaining three of the four-cylinder sailboat engines produce 77, 112 and 126 horsepower.

    Commercial Vessels

    • The Yanmar engines for commercial vessels include all of the two-, three- and four-cylinder auxiliary sailboat engines, plus several six-cylinder engines producing between 13 and 912 horsepower. These engines are suitable for use in offshore support vessels, fishing vessels and a variety of work boats that require inboard engines. All of Yanmar's commercial engines meet the International Maritime Organization's Tier III guidelines, which are set to go into effect in 2016 and establish limited emissions standards under international treaty. All engines under 450 horsepower can be used with both Yanmar's pod drives and stern drives.
