How to Magnetize an Outboard Magneto Rotor
You can induce a magnetic field in the magneto sufficient to start your boat's outboard using your muscles alone, or you can use the boat's electric starter. According to the Evinrude company, a breaker-point magneto ignition system uses a "mechanically switched collapsing field to induce a spark at the plug." The permanent magnets are built into the flywheel. The ignition coil, the points and the condenser are on the armature plate. When the flywheel turns past the coil, a magnetic field builds up around the coil.
