How to Make Outdoor Tents With Tools

Shelter is one of the essential elements necessary to survive in the outdoors. Shelter should provide a dry location in which to rest or sleep and potentially stay warm with a fire. A survival situation often calls upon an individual to improvise and use the materials that are on hand. A tent is made with the use of a tool and common item that should be carried anytime you venture into the outdoors.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 3-inch diameter limb that will stretch between two trees. Choose two trees for support that are 6 feet apart and have small branches growing along the trunk.

    • 2

Place one end of the cut limb in the branch of a tree that is 4 feet off the ground. Position the opposite end of the cut limb in the other tree so it is supported at the same level.

    • 3

Tie the ends of the cut limb to the supporting branches with short lengths of 550 para cord.

    • 4

Open a trash bag on the ground. Cut the sealed short side of the bag open with a knife. Cut one of the long sealed sides of the trash bag open with the knife.

    • 5

Place the trash bag over the cut limb so the crease of the bag rests on the limb.

    • 6

Pull one side of the trash bag to the ground and place rocks along the edge to hold it in place. Pull the opposite side down to the ground and hold it in place with rocks.
