Lake Eau Claire Campgrounds

With a name that means "clear water" in French, Lake Eau Claire spans more than 1,300 acres in western Wisconsin, providing a major resource for outdoor recreation in the region. The lake is particularly well-known for its fishing, and anglers often leave Lake Eau Claire with hefty catches of walleye, muskellunge, smallmouth and largemouth bass. You can access the lake through Lake Eau Claire Park, and several campgrounds provide accommodations in the surrounding area.
  1. Camping on the Eau Claire River

    • The Woodland Motel and Campground overlooks the shore of the Eau Claire River, just west of Lake Eau Claire. Nestled among a shady grove of trees, the campground includes 30 tent and RV campsites with water and electrical hookups. Waterfront sites are available, and the Eau Claire River is open to fishing, canoeing and kayaking. The Eau Claire Dam prevents boaters from following the river up to the lake, but it takes less than five minutes to drive to Lake Eau Claire Park from the Woodland. The park provides docks, fishing access, canoe portage points and picnic areas. A store at the campground sells bait, camping supplies, food and beverages.

    Lakeside Campsites

    • About 20 minutes south of Lake Eau Claire, Coon Fork Lake is a much smaller body of water at 62 acres. This secluded lake is an ideal alternative for campers who want to get away from the crowds, and more than 80 campsites are available at Coon Fork Lake Park. Options range from primitive tent campsites to RV sites with water and electrical hookups. Restrooms are provided, and each campsite includes a campfire ring, picnic table and bench. A dozen of the campsites are right on the water, allowing you to cast a line or launch a small boat just steps away from your tent or trailer. Canoe rentals, hiking trails, a swimming beach and boat landing are also located in the park. Boats on Coon Fork Lake are restricted to electric motors and non-powered craft only.

    Shady and Secluded

    • Sandy Hill Campground is half a mile from the northern shore of Lake Eau Claire. You can choose among shady tent campsites and spacious RV sites, many of them with water and electricity. Hot showers and modern restroom facilities are provided, along with an RV dumping station. Sandy Hill Campground also includes rustic backwoods cabins. Lake Eau Claire Park and the nearby boat launch on County Road SD are both within 5 miles of the campground.

    Rustic Riverside Camping

    • Spanning 43 acres, Harstad Park sits on the shore of the Eau Claire River, about 3 miles downstream from Lake Eau Claire. The park includes a primitive campground with about 25 non-electric sites. Tents and RVs are both welcome, and campers have access to hand-pumped drinking water and pit toilets. Each campsite includes a campfire ring and picnic table. The campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and campers are required to register near the entrance within 30 minutes of selecting a site. The maximum stay is 14 consecutive days. Its location on the river makes Harstad Park an ideal spot for fishermen, and a canoe landing is located at the end of a short hiking trail from the main parking area.
