How to Fold a Tent Trailer Awning
Most camper trailers have retractable awnings that open over the door. Tent trailers may not have a retractable awning, unlike their hard-shell cousins. If you have a tent trailer with an awning that does not retract, use a method of rolling the awning to prevent wrinkles and fold marks on the awning fabric. By keeping the awning rolled and stored properly, you prevent mold and mildew as well as prolong the useful life of the awning.
Things You'll Need
- Long 3/4- to 1-inch dowel (length of the awning)
- Hook and loop fabric straps
Instructions

1
Set the dowel to the edge of the awning. If you have an assistant to help, have them stand opposite you on the end of the dowel.
-
2
Grip the edge of the awning firmly against the dowel and wrap two full wraps of the awning fabric around the dowel.
-
3
Continue to roll the awning fabric up and around the dowel until you reach the end of the awning fabric.
-
4
Set the wrapped awning and dowel on the ground and wrap the hook and loop straps around the awning and dowel, so the awning is secured around the dowel.
-
5
Store the wrapped and rolled awning on a sleeping quarter bed when folding the tent trailer up for transport.
