DIY Slipknots

Outdoor recreational activities such as camping often require the use of rope and various knots. From anchoring a tent to making a clothesline, knots such as the slipknot are used. The slipknot is similar to the overhand knot but allows the knot to slide along the length of the line. A properly tied slipknot holds securely and is undone by pulling on one end of the rope.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a length of rope with your left and right hands.

    • 2

Bring the rope in your right hand back and over the rope in your left hand to form a loop.

    • 3

Hold the loop in place at the point where the rope crosses with your left hand.

    • 4

Push the rope in your right hand up through the loop forming a secondary loop with the rope.

    • 5

Hold the main line with your left hand and grasp the secondary loop with your right hand. Pull to tighten the slip knot.
