Find a piece of wood with a fork in the end. You want a branch that's at least 2 feet long and as thick as a pencil. The forks at the end should be at least half the thickness of a pencil and long enough to pierce whatever you'll cook.

Cut off any leaves or extraneous branches from the stick.

Whittle the tips at the end of the fork into points. Holding the knife away from your body, push the knife's blad in a downward sloping motion. Continue this until you create a sharp point. This helps the fork pierce food and creates clean tines.
