1
Consider the sport for which you want to create a cheer. You have to think about the terms for the sport. For example, first down and touchdown are football terms. Free throw and three point shot are basketball terms. You can use these terms in your cheer to make the cheer sport specific.
-
2
Write the words for the cheer, and make them easy to remember. In addition, the words should also flow easily out of your mouth. The words should encourage the team members to do their best.
-
3
Pick an upbeat rhythm for your cheer. Remember that the purpose of a cheer is to get the crowd pumped up and involved in the game. You can use the beat from a popular song or you can make up your own beat.
-
4
Decide on the movements for your cheer. Jumps, hand motions and stunts are all possible movements for your cheer. Keep in mind that the more elaborate the routine, the longer it will take to learn the movements. Simple routines are best if you will have to perform that cheer after only a few practices.
-
5
Show your cheer to the members of your cheer squad. Stay open to suggestions from the other members of your squad. Remember that since you are part of a team, you may have to make adjustments to you cheer to make it work.
