How to Make My Cheer Routine

As a cheerleader for your school and for your team, you have an important job to do. It's your job to rev up the crowd, motivate the players and show off your school spirit, all of which come together to make it more likely that your school's team will win the game. Good cheerleaders evoke confidence in the players, which shows through on the field or court. In order to do all this, you need to work hard at making a new cheer routine, and you and your squad need to practice diligently to get it just right.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the alignment of the cheerleaders for the routine. The alignment is where each cheerleader stands. You can form one straight line, a few lines or create a shape with the alignment.

    • 2

Add the moves. Once the alignment is complete, you need to add movements to the cheer. If you're using music, try to pick moves that fit with the music's tempo. If your cheer has words to it, align the moves with the words, such as clapping during a pause.

    • 3

Share the alignment and movements with your squad. Let them make suggestions for improvement and alter it accordingly. Getting input from all the cheerleaders can prove invaluable to coming up with a solid routine.

    • 4

Break up the movements of the cheer routine into eight counts. As you and the squad practice the routine, you will use the eight count to perfect your movements.

    • 5

Teach the cheerleading routine to the other cheerleaders using the eight counts and working on each section one at a time. Don't move on until everyone's got the movements. Then, you can break the cheerleaders into smaller groups to practice each day.
