How to Make Your Own Pom-Pom Cheer

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the sport or event you are creating the cheer for. You will need to determine if the cheer will be used for one sport, such as football, or for a variety of events and will thus be more about general school spirit.

    • 2

Choose a song or music to complement your routine. Select the music first and know that you can use a portion of a song to keep the length of the pom pom routine shorter. Opt for songs with no words and an upbeat tempo so as not to draw attention away from your routine.

    • 3

Write the cheer in a notebook. Write the cheer line by line. Make sure the chant is no longer than the length of the song you will be using for background music. Use simple words and reference the school name, school mascot or other relevant information to to make the cheer appropriate for your event.

    • 4

Stand in front of a mirror, holding your pom poms, and say the cheer you wrote while the music plays in the background. Add moves to the routine for each line of the cheer. Write down or videotape your routine as you create it so you can review the information later to craft the final routine.

    • 5

Allow for breaks during the cheer where pom poms are held at your side to give your arms a break because pom poms are heavy.

    • 6

Run through the routine with one to two members of your squad to see if the routine as a whole works. Make changes as necessary to the routine.
