1
Mark out an area to pitch the Stormhaven tent. The ground should be level, free of debris and well drained. Though the tent has a sizable footprint of 12-by-8 feet, leave room for guy lines.
-
2
Turn the tent inside out to expose the ridgepole loops. Assemble sectional ridgepole and insert through ridgepole loops. Align the ridge grommets with the holes in the ridgepole.
-
3
Rotate the tent right side out, and place it on the ground.
-
4
Pound in two stakes 3-feet away from one side of the tent. Space these stakes 4-feet apart. Attach two side guy lines to the stakes, and tighten runners loosely. If your tent guy lines do not have runners, Backpacker Magazine suggests securing guy lines with the tautline hitch.
-
5
Insert upright poles so top spikes pass through the end of the ridgepole hole and grommet in ridge of tent. Lift both uprights at the same time to avoid bending the ridgepole or spikes. Slightly lean the poles toward the unanchored side of the tent so tent remains upright.
-
6
Hammer in two stakes 3-feet away from the unanchored side of tent. Position these stakes parallel to the stakes in step 4. Attach the two side guy lines to the stakes, and lightly tighten with runners. Position the uprights in a vertical position. At this point, the tent should remain upright on its own.
-
7
Situate dollies on top of upright spikes and loop main guy lines over dollies. Run the main guy lines at a 45-degree angle from the front and rear ridge to the ground. The main guy lines will be the longest guy lines in your tent kit. Place front and rear stakes, and loosely affix the main guy lines.
-
8
Lace up both doors, and pound in a stake though the bottom becket of each door.
-
9
Extend corner guy lines till taut. Hammer in stakes, and attach corner guy lines.
-
10
Pound in corner and side brailings, the pegging loops located on the sides and corners of the tent. The Scout Association recommends twisting the brailing into a loop before putting the stake through it. This twist increases the holding power of the stake.
-
11
Tighten all guy lines until the tent is free of drooping canvas. However, do not tighten the guy lines too much as the tent's material will contract when wet. This contraction places undue stress on the tent seams.
-
12
Position ground cloth under tent. Lay the tent's sod cloth between the ground and ground cloth, this will provide a leak-proof bottom. If your model of ground cloth requires staking, stake it to the ground at all corners.
