How Do I Patch My Coleman Canoe?

Coleman is the leading manufacturer of outdoor camping and recreational supplies including tents, sleeping bags, portable stoves and lanterns. Coleman also manufactures high-density polyethylene plastic canoes. Although they are durable, and can take a beating, they can sometimes be damaged by extremely jagged rocks or hidden tree stumps in rocky stream or river beds. Nicks or holes can be patched with a little time and effort and the right supplies. It will take approximately 24 hours to get your Coleman canoe back in the water.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with warm water and soap and wash the damaged areas of the canoe well.

    • 2

Towel the damaged area off with a clean, dry cloth.

    • 3

Pour a small amount of plastic cleaning solvent on a clean rag and rub it around the damaged area.

    • 4

Use a pair of scissors to cut the wire mesh to the size of the hole to be repaired.

    • 5

Power up the KC Welder and use it to melt the wire mesh into the plastic on top of the hole.

    • 6

Hold the filler rod, which comes with the KC Welder kit, at the end of the KC Welder and pre-melt the rod.

    • 7

Flip the pre-melted side of the rod over and begin to trace the melted plastic along the damaged section of the canoe. Cut the rod with the tip of the welder and then firmly press the melted rod into the crack. Continue until the entire hole has been filled in.

    • 8

Allow the repaired section to dry and settle for at least 24 hours.
