How to Tie a Human Knot

The human knot is a game designed to break the ice between people who may be meeting for the first time or who may not have worked together before. While playing the game, players come into close contact with each other and work together to achieve a common goal. After much laughter over the humorous positions and the combined efforts to complete the game, the players are friendlier with each other and the group acts more like a team.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a group of up to 12 people shoulder-to-shoulder in a tight circle.

    • 2

Instruct the group members to hold up their right hand then reach across the circle to grab the right hand of the person opposite.

    • 3

Have each person hold up their left hand and then reach across to grab the left hand of a different person.

    • 4

Check the hands and make sure that everybody is holding the hands of two different people across the circle.

    • 5

Ask the group members to untangle themselves but maintain the hold of the hands they are holding. If the group members do this successfully then they end up in a circle again. If anyone loses the grip of the hands they were holding then the group must start the game over from the first step.
