How to Extend a Climbing Rope
To the untrained eye, most climbing ropes will appear to be the same. Climbing ropes differ slightly based on the type of climbing and intended terrain. While dynamic climbing ropes feature an elastic design that can absorb the force of a fall, static ropes stretch very little. Extend and inspect your climbing rope prior to an ascent to ensure it remains free of tears or lacerations. According to the climbing specialists at REI, climbing ropes generally have a length of around 196 feet.
