How to Rig a Shimano Butterfly Jig

The Shimano Butterfly jig is a solid, lead lure that is sold unrigged and is used for deep-sea fishing for large predator fish such as tuna, snapper and grouper. The long, thin body falls quickly through the water without being affected by fast, underwater current. A stiff rod paired with braided line is used to jig the lure and make it resemble an injured baitfish. The low stretch of braided line makes it easier to feel bites and set the hook in deep water.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach a split ring to the ring at the head end of the lure. This allows you to exchange the jig for one of a different size or color quickly.

    • 2

Tie two stinger hooks to a solid hook, one on either side. Shimano recommends Owner Dancing Stinger hooks.

    • 3

Attach the split ring on the nose of the lure to the sold ring with the hooks. Tie your main line opposite the split ring.
