Geography
-
View from the water of Doha, Qatar. Qatar is a peninsular country extending into the Arabian Gulf. It is bordered to the South by Saudi Arabia, and is located between Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The capital and location of the only international airport in the country is Doha.
Fish Species
-
According to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, over 300 species of fish abound in the waters offshore from Doha. Local favorites are Hammour (a deep water grouper), Angelfish, Puffers, King fish, Queen fish, Shari, Dorado and Mackerel. Heavy commercial fishing exists for these fish close to shore and has impacted their numbers in this area. A distance of three to six miles offshore is recommended to reach the best fishing.
Fishing Guides
-
Heading out farther offshore for better fishing. The official website of Qatar says that most major hotels have guided charter boat trips available. These are recommended as reliable boats are not readily available in the area outside of booking through the hotel.
Best Time
-
The World Tourism Directory recommends avoiding the time between the middle of July and the middle of September due to the extreme heat. Peak time usually occurs from late September to early March. Sand storms frequently occur in late spring and early summer and should be avoided due to uncomfortable conditions.
