The Best Way to Hook Earthworms
Earthworms attract fish like bass, trout, walleye and crappie, so they are good to use for fresh water fishing. They are easy to find in your garden or inexpensive to buy live from many sporting goods or fishing stores. The best way to hook earthworms depends on what size of fish you want to catch.

1
Cut the worm into small pieces if you are fishing for small fish. Leave the worm whole to attract bigger fish.
-
2
Thread the hook through the middle of a couple of smaller, cut pieces of worm so the ends dangle and attract small fish. For the whole worm, first push the hook through the collar, or the thickest part of the worm, then thread the hook through the middle of the longest remaining section to create a loop, leaving both ends free to attract bigger fish.

3
Push the worm onto the hook and barb so it doesn't fall off. Check your hook regularly in case you need to add more bait.
