How to Install a Tru Trac Downrigger Cable Clincher

Positioning the bait deeper in the water when trolling, downriggers allow fisherman to reach fish holding at greater depths without having to let out excessive amounts of line. Downriggers are a reel with a cable attached to a heavy weight that hangs over the side of the boat. The downrigger cable is then connected to the fishing line via a cable release. When a fish strikes the bait the release automatically detaches the fishing line from the weighted cable, allowing the angler to fight the fish freely. The Tru Trac Klincher is a sensitive cable release designed to attach the cable directly to the fishing line without the need of knots.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the downrigger cable though the tapered slot in Tru Trac Klincher release, located at the end of the release opposite the snap.

    • 2

Run the cable through the groove on the tongue in the center of the Tru Trac and then pull the cable back out through the same slot from where it was inserted into the release.

    • 3

Slide the narrow end of the cable stay wedge over the base of the release snap. Insert the wide end of the cable stay into the release. Place the bead on the wide end of the stay between the two sections of downrigger cable -- where the cable doubles-back on itself inside the release.

Cast the bait into the water and hook the snap on the Tru Trac to the fishing line.
