1
Select an appropriate size of pork rind. If you are using the rind instead of other bait, then choose a strip that is 4 to 8 inches long for striped bass and other large fish. Smaller strips should be used for bream or other smaller fish. If the pork rind is being used as the tail of a jig, make sure it is no longer than one half the size of the jig.

2
Choose an appropriate color and shape of pork rind. Originally, only white pork rinds were used, and some fishermen believe that is best. Others prefer to use colored strips that have been cut to look like small flat frogs, eels or leeches. If you are using the rind in combination with a jig, it is best to use the same or a similar color as that of the jig.

3
Keep the rind moist. Pork rind is useful as a lure because of its flexibility, and it loses that attribute once it dries out and will no longer be as attractive to fish. If you remove the rind from your fishing line put it into a container of water, or back into its original jar. If you are switching locations but are keeping the lure on the line, try to keep it dangling into a bucket of water while you move. Do not let it dry out.
