How to Repair a Curado CU-200

The Shimano Curdado CU-200 is an older bait-casting reel. The Curado has a metal housing that holds the bushings, pinion and spool. Repairing the reel requires getting into the inner workings, cleaning them and inspecting them for any damage. If any particular part is damaged, get replacements through Shimano's fishing department or through fishing and tackle stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a shallow pan with the degreaser and set it next to your work area. Take the reel off the rod by unscrewing the rod foot-retainer plate.

    • 2

Unscrew the four small screws on the inside housing plate of the reel (this is on the non-handle side of the reel). Set the screws aside and pull the housing plate off the side.

    • 3

Pull the spool out from the side to expose the pinion. Use a larger flathead screwdriver to unscrew the handle's retaining screw and pull the handle and star drag off the handle spindle. Place the star drag into the degreaser.

    • 4

Unscrew the four holding screws on the handle side of the reel housing and pull out the housing plate. Unscrew the small bushings and place them into the degreaser.

    • 5

Remove the items from the degreaser and dry them off with a rag. Inspect them for bends, missing teeth or erosion. If damage is present, replace the damaged piece.

    • 6

Coat the pieces with a light coat of lubricant and replace all parts, going in the reverse order as the disassembly.
