1
Place a size 10 fly hook in the jaws of a fly tying vise. Position the bend of the hook in the vise jaws with the shank on top and the hook point on the bottom.
-
2
Wrap fly tying thread around the shank of the hook. Begin the wraps just below the hook eye and work half way down the shank.
-
3
Cut a 1-inch long piece of fly tying yarn with a pair of scissors. Place the yarn evenly along the length of the fly hook shank.
-
4
Secure the yarn to the hook shank with three turns of fly tying thread. Tie the wraps tightly around the yarn and shank to hold the yarn in place.
-
5
Pull the length of yarn extending forward over the hook eye back over the middle wraps of thread.
-
6
Wrap several turns of thread around the hook shank between from the base of the eye down to middle wraps. Tie the thread off securely and cut free from the spool with scissors.
-
7
Pull both ends of the yarn straight up and away from the hook shank and cut the yarn with scissors. Cut the yarn short for a small egg or longer for a larger egg pattern.
-
8
Fluff the fly tying yarn with your fingers to form a round egg pattern shape.
