1
Place the Tiemco 3761 hook in the fly tying vise. Start the thread at the eye of the hook and wrap it forward five to six times. Remove a bunch of marabou from a larger patch and use your fingers to cover the hook shank with the material. Make several thread wraps to secure the marabou to the hook. The tips will extend past the hook bend to help disguise the hook. Use a whip finisher to knot the thread and cut the thread away from the hook.

2
Remove the marabou tail from the vise and place the Tiemco 5263 in the vise. Start the thread at the eye of the hook and wrap it forward to completely cover the hook shank.

3
Cut a 1-foot long section of 30-lb. backing from a spool. Place the backing against the inside of the hook shank to match the length of the shank. Wrap the thread to secure the backing to the hook. Pass the tag end of the backing through the eye of the tail hook and place the excess backing against the outside of the hook shank. Use the thread to secure the backing to the hook. Cut away any excess backing and add a drop of super glue to the thread wraps to lock the backing in place.
-
4
Place a piece of chenille on the bend of the hook and make several thread wraps to secure the chenille to the hook. Place the tip of a saddle hackle feather immediately behind the chenille and make several thread wraps to secure it to the hook. Wrap the thread forward to the eye of the hook.

5
Wrap the chenille to the eye of the hook and make several thread wraps to secure it to the shank. Cut away the excess chenille. Wrap the hackle to the eye of the hook in a diagonal pattern. Use your fingers to stroke the hackle as you make the wraps. This ensures the fibers do not clump on the hook. Make several thread wraps to secure the hackle to the eye of the hook and cut away the excess with your scissors. Use a whip finisher to knot the thread and complete the fly.
