1
Attach one end of your planer line to your boat and the other end of the line to the planer. The planer line should generally be between 50 and 75 feet long depending on the depth you want to fish.
-
2
Attach the double-snap swivel to the planer line by opening the first snap portion of the swivel, slipping the planer line inside the open swivel and closing the pertinent snap portion of the swivel.
-
3
Attach a rubber band to your fishing line by folding the rubber band over the fishing line, inserting the first end of the rubber band through the other end of the rubber band and pulling gently on the first end to make sure the attachment is snug.
-
4
Attach the first end of the rubber band to the unencumbered snap of the double-snap swivel by opening the snap swivel, sliding the loop of the first rubber band end over the exposed end of snap swivel and closing the snap swivel.
-
5
Attach a spoon to the end of your fishing line using an improved clinch knot.
-
6
Let out your fishing line in order to get the spoon down to the proper depth. As the line goes out, the double-snap swivel and the rubber band will slide down the planer line until it reaches the planer. This will permit the spoon to be fished at your desired depth.
-
7
When a fish strikes the spoon, the force of the strike will break the rubber band and release the fishing line from its connection to the planer line. You will then be able to fight the fish unencumbered.
