Scadden Pontoon Crafts

Pontoons are small, one-, two- or three-person fishing boats designed for floating rivers. Composed of a number of seats and oars connected to two inflatable bladders, pontoons are highly maneuverable little boats that are great for fishing streams and rivers. Scadden pontoons, designed by Montana fishing guide Dave Scadden, come are popular with serious anglers.
  1. Frameless Models

    • Frameless Scadden pontoon crafts require no assembly before use, but they must be inflated. Most of these crafts, which include the Outlaw Escape, Outlaw Renegade and Outlaw Assault model, pack down to sizes small enough to fit in the carry-on compartment of an airplane. They come in lengths from 6 feet to 12 feet and may hold from one to three anglers. Scadden frameless pontoons are all rated for up to class V rapids except for the Outlaw Escape, which is rated for up to class III rapids.

    One-Person Framed Models

    • One-person framed Scadden pontoons utilize Scadden's bladderless pontoons, but add the rigidity of a metal frame. The frame allows anglers added control when paddling and also gives them a rigid deck to stand on for spotting fish and making long casts. They come in lengths from 10 feet 6 inches to 12 feet and are all rated for up to either class IV or class V rapids.

    Two-Person Framed Models

    • For anglers who don't want to fish their favorite streams alone, Scadden pontoons also come in two-person models with frames. These are longer, heavier boats than other models and feature seating and standing/casting decks for two fishermen. Like other framed models, the Scadden two-person framed pontoons can be fitted with an outboard or trolling motor.

    Larger Models

    • There is some overlap in the framed models because even some one-person framed models, such as the Outlaw Challenger, can add additional framing material and seats to support one, two or three anglers. The Outlaw Outfitter also has the options, while the Outlaw Professional Guide model features a closed design (i.e., more like a raft) and 15 feet of fishing room. All Scadden pontoons are easily deflated, disassembled and transported.
