How to Make Food for Hiking

Hiking is an activity that's enjoyed by many people each year. Hiking requires a large expenditure of energy that must be replenished in order for a hiker to successfully complete the journey. A wide variety of foods and snacks geared toward hikers is available commercially. However, one of the most famous hiking and trail foods is easily made at home with only a few ingredients.

  • Plastic zip-close bag
  • 1 cup granola
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

      Place a zip-close bag on a counter or table.

      Add 1 cup of granola to the bag. Measure the granola with a measuring cup. Choose a granola with honey as a source of quick energy.

      Measure 1 cup of oats and add to the granola in the bag.

      Pour 1 cup of raisins in the mixture in the bag and add 1 cup of peanuts for a protein source.

      Pour in 1 cup of chocolate chips as a quick energy source into the bag. Close the bag and shake it to mix everything thoroughly.
