These affordable packs include a number of features, such as a low pack weight and spacious pockets. They are available in an array of colors, and can handle a heavy load without breaking the bank.
  1. History of The North Face

    • Founded in 1966 as a small retail store, The North Face is one of the world's leading suppliers of outdoor gear, offering ski equipment, camping equipment and clothing. The company is owned by the VF Corporation, which also owns a sister company specializing in the manufacture of backpacks, Jansport. Together, Jansport and The North Face produce nearly half of all backpacks, including the Slingshot Daypack, sold in the United States.

    Dimensions and Uses

    • The Slingshot measures 13 inches by 9 inches by 18 inches, and holds 2,135 cubic inches or nearly 35 liters of gear. The bag weighs 30 ounces, or roughly more than 1 pound. The bag was designed as a daypack for hikers due to its lightweight design, though students have found it to be a ideal backpack or laptop bag due to its side water bottle pockets, various compartments and the organizer built into the bag's front pocket. The waterproof coating also makes the bag ideal for sportier uses.

    Construction

    • The Slingshot Daypack is made of polyester, with mesh comprising the side pockets. The shoulder straps use FlexVent, an ultra light and breathable laminate that adds comfort when hiking. The bag features YKK brand zippers, heavy metal zippers that are used to reinforce the bag's high-stress areas. The bag also features a large reflective patch on its exterior to increase visibility at night.

    Features

    • A hideaway belt offers added support when using the Slingshot as a daypack, while a stitched foam back panel provides extra support and air circulation along the back. The bag offers two main compartments on the inside, two side pockets, a smaller zip pocket for accessories and a key clip attached to the front pocket. The back side of the bag also features a trampoline system, a netting of bungee cord for strapping down bigger items like jackets. This trampoline system can also be used as a compression cinch to compact bulky gear.
