How to Rig a Tarp
Rigging up a tarp shelter can provide hikers, campers, and backpackers a quick shelter. A tarp shelter rigged properly is an inexpensive way to protect yourself from the elements. Tarp shelters will dry out quickly after a rainstorm, provide enough room for multiple people, and can be broken down quickly when it's time to get moving. Day hikers should always carry simple supplies for a tarp shelter in case an emergency situation arises.

Find the middle of the tarp. Fold the tarp in half to reveal the center. Place the center of the tarp on the rope.

Locate four rocks that weigh around 10 pounds each. Place a rock on each corner of the tarp shelter. Make sure the tarp is tight so rain will not pool up on the tarp shelter.
