How to Store a Backpack

A backpack, whether soft-sided nylon or a hiking backpack with a metal frame, will serve you well for years if you maintain it properly. Because you use a backpack for carrying items, it can develop permanent stains if you do not take the time to clean it. When you finish using it, clean and then store a backpack carefully to ensure that it stays in useful condition for many years.

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the backpack completely and put everything away.

    • 2

Unzip every pocket and compartment of the backpack. Vacuum out every compartment and crevice of the backpack with the crevice attachment. Vacuum the inside and outside surfaces of the backpack with the brush attachment to remove loose dirt and dust.

Fill the small bowl with warm water and add a squirt of dishwashing liquid. Saturate the sponge in the soapy water, squeeze out the excess water and wipe any soiled areas of the backpack with the damp sponge. Apply the laundry spot remover to any stubborn spots on the backpack, following the spot remover instructions.

    • 5

Allow the backpack to dry completely before you put it away.
