Instructions

    • 1

Fit the Coleman backpack to your body. Loosen both the waist and shoulder straps and place some load or weight in the pack to simulate a loaded backpack. Adjust the torso length of the backpack by accessing the webbing straps underneath the lumbar pad. Adjust the shoulder straps, hip belt, sternum strap and the load stabilizer straps so that they fit snugly and comfortably on your body. Place the load stabilizer straps closer to your lower back.

    • 2

Adjust the load lifters. Coleman backpacks have adjustable load-lifter straps located at the crest of the shoulder. The straps help transfer the weight and lift it off the top of your shoulders. Pull the straps until taut so that they run off your shoulder at a 45-degree angle.

Distribute the weight when loading your Coleman backpack. Put the heaviest items close to your back and centered between the shoulder blades. When using the backpack for on-trail hikes, position the heavy items a little higher to concentrate more of the weight over your hips. For use on off-trail hikes, position the heavy items a little lower in the main part of the bag to increase stability.

Line the inside of your Coleman backpack with a heavy-duty plastic bag. Put all your items inside the bag and roll it closed as a waterpoof protection for your gear and clothing when backpacking.
