How to Use a Coleman Max Backpack

The Coleman Company makes outdoor gear, including the Coleman Max Backpack, an internal frame pack intended for day use, but capable of much more. The pack is "a durable, inexpensive piece of gear," says Crystal Judge, an outdoor professional who reviewed the Max 65L for Venturepax.com. Whether you're headed into the wilderness, or to the park for a game of football, take advantage of the carrying capacity this versatile pack offers.

Instructions

    • 1

Load larger items like a sleeping bag, thick clothing or athletic shoes through the large opening at the top of the bag. This type of opening allows the Max to be categorized as a top loading pack. The inside area is divided into a large pocket and another smaller pocket for keeping items organized.

    • 2

Fill the two smaller side pockets with accessories that are elongated, such as a large flashlight, small propane tank or a tube of tennis balls. The mesh pockets just outside are capable of holding two water bottles, sports beverages or sodas for a picnic.

    • 3

Insert other accessories through the external loop system on front. Anything from tools, to sun block, to a bandanna, can be threaded through the loops and carried on the outside of the pack.

    • 4

Attach a tent, sleeping pad or stadium blanket to the straps on the bottom. A bag containing a sports ball, picnic food or other supplies could be strapped on the bottom, depending on your intended activity.

Carabiners are useful for attaching gear to your pack.

Attach hanging items such as a cell phone, camera or medical kit with a simple carabiner. Easily alternate between glasses and sunglasses by hanging the case on the outside of the pack for convenience.

Secure the attached rain shield over the pack with the plastic buckles. In the event of inclement weather, the Max has you covered.
